Profile

Ansa Edim is a Dean’s List studentĀ  graduating from James Madison University with Bachelor of the Arts degrees in Media Arts and Design as well as in Spanish in May of 2010. She intends to utilize the knowledge gained and practical coursework experienced in undergraduate school in a rewarding career in new media (print and online).

Experience

  • In August 2009, Ansa began working as the Media Specialist for Recruiting Services at James Madison University. In this position, she creates and disseminates marketing material for upcoming events, including career fairs and employer workshops. She also plans, shoots and edits promotional videos for Career and Academic Planning at JMU.
  • As an advertising customer representative for The Washington Post Company during the summers of 2008 and 2009, Ansa utilized her communication skills to correspond with national corporations regarding their advertising initiatives. She also used the internship as an opportunity to develop her writing skills as she created, interviewed and wrote for the first ever Advertising department newsletter which she entitled A-Matter. She furthered her internship experience by presenting to Katharine Weymouth, Publisher and CEO on how to improve readership among young adults.
  • From October 2008 to May 2009 Ansa worked as a student assistant for JMU’s Center for Faculty Innovation where she made use of her organizational skills by maintaining the faculty resource library and also the company’s Access database. Ansa created a check-out system for the library that has allowed the CFI to recover a number of previously missing books.
  • In March 2009, Ansa became involved in a national research campaign based at Elon University. She was referred to Dr. Frances Ward-Johnson of Elon University by a professor and then requested to moderate a James Madison Campus focus group. As a moderator, Ansa led a small group of multicultural students in a discussion about their futures in the public relations business.
  • Ansa is involved in a number of extra curricular activities. She is currently a co-president of Madison Advertising Club – a club that aims to educate students in Advertising opportunities for students – as well the African Student Organization and The Breeze. Ansa has held other leadership positions including Secretary of the Contemporary Gospel Singers.
  • Ansa’s computer skills include all of Microsoft office, including Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, Visio, Outlook and Access as well as Adobe CS3 including Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign, Illustrator. Ansa also has experience with iMovie and Audacity. She is proficient in Spanish reading, writing and language.
